Autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) appears to be the most effective therapy against multiple sclerosis in the study.
After more than two years, up to 90% of patients with a relapsing-remitting progression are relapse-free and without progression even years after the treatment; in progressive patients (including PPMS), up to 75% are without progression of the disease! In some patients, the existing symptoms have improved, but this is a bonus and should NOT be the reason to do this therapy. The goal of the treatment is to STOP the MS.
